The purpose of this presentation is to introduce the CERN Open Hardware Licence, v.1.1 of which was released on July 7 2011, the context in which it was developed, the reasons for developing it and how it is currently being used at CERN. A description of the main provisions will be given together with the main issues and solutions that were discussed during the process.
