Three years after the project’s kick off, Movim is now usable and we have the opportunity to look back and see how things work within a Free and decentralised social network.
Despite many obstacles, Movim is still on track and the project’s goals haven’t changed. Our reliance on XMPP for the communication protocol allows us to be truly decentralised and benefit from the network’s built-in security.
Guillaume Pasquet Senior web developer in London, Free software activist and member of the FSF, author of the projects Movicon [http://movicon.ath.cx], Datajar[http://launchpad.net/datajar] and Anvil[http://bzr.ath.cx] and one of Movim’s main contributors. Guillaume values software freedom and joined the development of the social network Movim in order to bring the four basic freedoms to social network users.
Timothée Jaussion IT Student at Polytech Nantes. He started and is the main developer of the project Movim. Very involved in free software community (Wikipedia, Movim), he wishes to share and apply the free software principles (sharing, respect and transparency) to social networks and works to promote a truly free and decentralised Internet that respects standards and is accessible to all.
