TV services are evolving, both the delivery mechanisms and the end devices. This session is about building a video head-end from open source software for your home, lab, school, community to allow multiple end devices to receive live radio and TV services independently from the set of receiving devices.
We will cover the frequency planning for satellite and terrestrial reception, suggested hardware to build-out the system, some media players that may be used to receive those services and areas that need to be improved.
In past lives Thomas ran a bunch of start-ups providing Internet access over technologies such as DSL, satellite and Fibre to the Home including building triple play services (Internet, voice and video).
He currently works for a large telecom vendor where he focuses on Broadcast focused Audio/Video standards and industry efforts.
In his limited spare time he does too many things for his own good, including supporting various projects related to his work field where he can share his network and video expertise.
